Alabama Allows Church Police Force
Alabama Passes Law Allowing Church With History Of Racism To Form Its Own Police Force
Briarwood Presbyterian Church had asked to be granted the authority to form its own police force. Two years later, it got signed.
The overwhelmingly Republican legislature of Alabama had let a bill die in 2017 – which would have granted the authority to a Briarwood Presbyterian Church to have its own police force.
Two years later, Governor of Alabama Kay Ivey has signed the bill on Wednesday to allow Briarwood Presbyterian Church and its private school on the same campus to create its own law enforcement agency. According to The Associated Press, these private police officials can make arrests and also detain people if crimes are committed on the property.
